Hugh, Anne and Hector's Sailing Adventures
Hi folks
Well we finally left the marina yesterday and travelled a whole dramatic 100 yards across the bay to anchor up for a few days. The drama was caused by us forgetting how to sail and leaving the anchor in a dodgy state on the bow (chain off the windlass, anchor perched over the edge). At the first small wave, the anchor launched itself over the bow and umpteen metres of chain rattled out, anchoring us in the middle of the channel - oops! I of course panicked and refused to follow Hugh's orders to stamp on the rattling chain with my foot (I'm much too attached to my foot). Hugh did his superman bit and stopped the chain and we eventually regained control, but of course it was a very public display of ineptitude - witnessed by some of our new friends!
Apart from that, we have been leading a quiet life, the marina is very comfy, with showers, laundrette and of course access to dry land and it feels very strange to be casting off for our travels (I think I have a bad case of dock rot and would quite happily stay in the marina - don't tell Hugh).
My friend Christine has just been out for a week and we had a great time doing the old tourist bit, we visited Soller by train and bought Hugh some outrageously expensive fruit cake that is a local speciality. Christine and I couldn't eat it, but luckily Hugh loved it.
We also visited Puerto Portals, which is a very expensive marina close to Palma Nova. Its full of multi million pound motor boats and I must admit we gawped at the sheer luxury of them. We couldn't even afford lunch there!
The weather has been great and we had some relaxing days sunbathing and lunched out all over the place - it was fun.
Hugh continues to work on the boat, and we have been buying some new bits of kit to improve life (well the fridge really) We have new batteries and are awaiting delivery of a solarcell panel.
Once (if) our computer is fixed, we will post up some photos.
Thanks for all your messages
Regards
Anne
