Sally's Adventures in South East Asia
Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia is a great place to spend a few days. I was here just two days but packed them with visiting the Russian Market, Royal Palace & Silver Pagoda, S21 the Genocide Museum and the infamous and tragic killing fields. The killing fields, discovered after the Cambodian people's liberation from the Khmer Rouge regime, have been left as a memorial to those who died. A large glass tower filled with some of the skulls of the many dead lies in the centre. It fills me with terror that during the 70s, in my own lifetime, millions of people were killed and tortured by their own people. Cambodians estimate that more people were killed in Cambodia under this ultra-communist regime then during the hollocaust in WWII.
