We went on a day trip to the Mekong Delta from Ho Chi Minh City. A confluence of canals, waterways, boats, floating markets and islands. We arrived at the nearest town of My Tho which is about 85 km from HCM. The drive took us just over 2.5 hours to get there. We arrived in a small court yard and the driver indicated that we can hire a private boat to visit the may islands. We met with the owners and had to bargin to get the fee down from $100 to $60. ...

Well, its been a while since our last blog.... we spent our days relaxing in on the beach in Hoi An, eating the great food or just walking the streets of the old town or getting some tailored clothes .... The restaurants in Hoi An are some of the best in Vietnam.... the food both Western or Vietnamese are to die for..... we also had some good indian... ha ha ha... We took a cab to the station in Hanoi to catch our 7:30 pm train to Hue. We had to check out early so the kids have been waiting for a few hours to check into the train. We booked a two day one night boat ride in Halong Bay. Halong bay, a world heritage site, with more than 2000 islands is surreal and breathtaking in its beauty. We had a 8:00 am pick up from our hotel. The family was a bit tired and after a night of food poisioning wasnt looking forward to the five hour bus ride to the bay. We were joined in the bus with a french couple, one spanish couple (mum and daughter), a newly married couple from Russia (poor things.....

We finally arrived in Hanoi. The entire family was jet lagged as Isabel was cranky on the flight across..so no sleep for all. We landed on Friday evening and spent the night just settling in. Saturday we took to the streets of Hanoi - the old quarter to find a travel agent to book a few trips. Its a crazy city with alot of traffic. got hasseled by a couple of vendors but otherwise all good. Check out the photos of the old quarter... bloody great place...
