Our flight to Cairns was about a five hour journey, It was Sar's turn to have the window seat and she didn't stop peering out for the whole journey! There was some pretty interesting views though as we could see a lot of the flood damage that had been caused up the east coast, shocking and to see it from an aerial view it was even more so. Sar was also very excitable still peering out the little window as we flew over four, FOUR Rainbows, this is Sar's excited account of it! :)

When we arrived in Cairns the weather wasn't the best as it was only a couple of days ago that Cyclone Yasi narrowly missed devastating the town, we were very lucky even to have Cairns being accessible to us. We could see some off the aftermath but it was clear the clean up operation was in full force as there was loads of clean-up teams around.

We only had a couple of days in Cairns, we decided to have such a short time up there as we knew the weather was going to be dreadful and there was going to be next to no chance of us getting out to see the Great Barrier Reef. On our first day there, as expected, it rained all day and so we just chilled in the room. The hostel we were staying at was pretty cool though, part of the deal with the room was that we received a free evening meal as well as breakfast. It was only a small chilli and pasta dish but was fantastic to get it for free and stopped us overspending any more!

For our second day in Cairns we were lucky as we woke up to glorious weather! We went and had a walk down the promenade which was lovely. We then went and spent the day at 'The Lagoon' which was the largest outdoor swimming pool I have ever seen, it was huge man! Really nice pool as well. After chilling all day at the pool we went back and got our free grub and then off to bed as we were up at half 3 the next morning for our monster journey to Utila.
