Our bus broke down just as we were about to leave a rainy Franz Josef. We had a five hour wait for the bus to miraculously fix itself (mechanics looked at it but coulnd;t find any problems). Anyway we left Franz Josef and the rain forest, driving past and through some incredible mountains and huge waterfalls that were cascading down the mountains. We stopped in a small place called Haast and read about some of the conservations projects going on in the area. We continued onto Wanaka crossing the Haast Bridge.
As we came closer to Wanaka the scenery dramatically to lakes and mountains and an incredible sunset. We treated ourselves to a meal out the first night. Jeff needed some TLC to get over his flu so we chilled out in the hostel a lot over the three days, which overlooked the lake and mountains. We went for walks along the lake and had hot chocolate in coffee shops by the fire.
On the way to Queenstown we stopped at Puzzling World which was rather puzzling. It had the worlds on 3D maze which we completed and exited before a lot of people. There was a tilted room where water flowed up and balls on a pool table rolled upwards.
