I have a lot to update so this agian will be a hefty entry. Last time I updated was Koh Lanta. We spent our last day in Koh Lanta on mopeds. They cost about four quid a day to hire and we made the most of it. We found some deserted beaches and just chilled out for the day. The evening was much of the same, just playing pool and making the most of cheap beer b4 Malaysia. The next day was all travelling. They screwed up our transfer of buses and we ended up in Penang which wasnt a major problem. We spent three days in Penang, recovering one day, got drunk and did all the nightlife stuff, spent a day at the mosque/chinese temple/Penang hill. Penang hill is the highest point of the island, you have to take a cable car/tram up and at the top the views of the city and surrounding area are breathtaking. The next day we had to get a night bus at 10pm, until then we just did some shopping, cinema (don't go and watch 10,000 bc), and messed around in the arcade. The nightbus took us to Kuala Besut harbour where we got a speed boat to the Perhentain Islands on the otherside of Malaysia. The speedboat was great fun and woke us all up after the rubbish nights sleep on the bus. We found some accomdation on the island, just a beach chalet about 20m from the beach. We spent the day in the sun getting very burnt. There are two islands, we stayed on the cheaper one. One side the island was flat waters, good for sorkelling and little bit more expensive accomdation. The otherside had awesome waves from the south china sea and accomodation was more to our price. We stayed here, in the evening we had a beach BBQ and booked up a snorkelling trip for the next day. We started snorkelling early, we joked because the sign said garunteed turtles, however as soon as we arrived at the creavtively named "turtle point" the driver stopped the boat and pointed shouting turtle and there was a massive turle just gliding alongside next to the boat. We all jumped in with our gear on and we were free diving down next to them, touching there shells and swimming alongside them. Then we went to Shark point, minutes after we got in black tip sharks from about 0.5m to 2m long started swimming 8/9 feet below us along the sea bed. We saw about 20 sharks overall and this was just as cool as the turtles. We carried on to other points where there were stingrays, clown fish and parrot fish. The next day we spent the day on the beach and celebrated Pats bday in style in the night by drinking lots of Monkey Juice and dancing till 4am. Unfortunately we had to get the 7am speedboat that morning, however the waves turned out to be a very good hangover cure. We got to Teman Negara rainforest about 8pm after many bus transfers and not enough sleep. After splashing out on Air-Con we booked a 3 day jungle trek starting the next day. I had a cracking nights sleep and we got up earlier to purchase our rubber trekking shoes. The whole trek was so incredible, we all really enjoyed it. The first day we took a boat up the river doing rapid shooting. Then we had a 5 hour trek through the jungle until we reached a massive cave. We slept here after washing in the stream and collecting fire wood. We had chicken curry for tea and slept in the cave with our trek guide and another group of three American guys, it was a good laugh. The next day we did a 2 hour morning trek and then went swimming in the river and did a rope swing which was really cool. Then another hour trek and took a boat to the local Orang Asli tribe where we stayed the night. In the evening we had beef curry by the fire, drank tigers and conversed with the local tribe Chief. In the morning they showed us how to make fire and use there local hunting weapon. Its now the afternoon of that morning and we are updating blogs after one of the best showers of my life, lol. Its been a fantastic week and I have loved Malaysia so far. Also we did a canopy walkway but that was a bit of a let down. Hope everyone is well and Im gonna put up photos after this so check those out as well if you can. Spk Soon, Ryan.
