Carolyns Adventures
Well it is now our last day in Siem Reap, we arrived here 3 days ago from Phnom Penh, an arduos 4 hour bus ride.
We have visited the famous Angkor Wat temples and numerous other ones too. We hired a tuk-tuk and driver for 2 days for the mere sum of about $5. Cheap as chips! We found out the hard way that sometimes the Lonely Planet does actually provide you with sound advice ...
So when it said 'avoid visiting Angkor Wat at noon, in the heat of the day' we did just that! And boy was it HOT! 45°C it was as we walked the 100m into the temple. Wandering around and clambering about on the temple walls made us a little sweaty and thirsty .... and we forgot to stock up on water!! But a great banana smoothie and pancake later, all of this was of course forgotten!!
We got up at the crack of dawn on the last morning, which in Cambodian times is 4am. We watched the sun rise over the Bayon, a temple made famous by a Cambodian King, it was very beautiful and I'm pleased we made the effort for the early start.
Tomorrow we will leave Smileys guesthouse ... if my calculations are correct, we should have USD1 left ... so we would have got just enough money out .... it will all depend on what we eat tonight ... most probably another pizza ... not a happy happy pizza though ... dont want to be knocked for six for the next few days!!
We will head back into Thailand, ready to start our week of luxury in the timeshare resort in Phuket. God only knows how much we need clean clothes and a good, hot shower.
