Omg what a day! Transfer to Nakuru took 5 hrs in the end due to a diversion and taking 63 women to a shop! They expected us to only take 10 minutes to go shopping?!
Just had time to scoff lunch, then it was back out and onto the game drive in Nakuru National Park. I saw buffalo, jackals, gazelle, water bucks, white rhino, giraffe, baboons, pelicans, collobus monkeys, marmosets, hyenas, lions and their cubs! Just when we were starting to see too much buffalo, the vehicle got stuck in the mud. After much changing of gears and high revs, some with the handbrake on, our inept driver finally admitted defeat and asked us to push. We jumped out and started pushing, which made no difference, as the wheels were far too bogged down by then. That's when we noticed the buffalo within petting distance!! After a hasty retreat to the van, another driver came and rescued us, by getting another passing vehicle to nudge us as he reversed as quickly as he could. We cheered and swapped back to our inept driver, and carried on. Alas not 2 minutes later, we were stuck in a different bit of mud! Rescued once again, we went on and started spinning in the wet ground, with a huge tree looming up upon us at an alarming rate. The driver stuck his hand out the window as if to push the tree away! Missing it by a fine hair, we went on until the vehicle decided to overheat and fill with smoke. Once again we were out of the vehicle, just round the corner from a pride of lions, deciding which was the best way to die, eaten or barbecued! Our rescuer came along once more, and 12 of us were squeezed into a 6 seater vehicle and we went to see the lions that could have eaten us. They had two little cubs and was so beautiful to see. By now the light was fading and we were taken to the staff canteen in the middle of the park. Here we found our inept driver, making repairs to the vehicle. We piled out of the one we were in, as 12 was a squeeze and after a few minutes I noticed the armed guards that were around us. That's when I saw the herd of buffalo that had come to investigate us! After a repair and replacing all of the water that was lost from the vehicle, it was dark, the park was shut, and we started to make our way to the exit. That's when I noticed that the fuel gauge was on empty! It took 50 minutes to get to the park gates, and I spent the entire time watching the fuel gauge go from empty to running on fumes. The park gates were locked, lights to gate house turned off, and no one about. I didn't think we would ever get out of there. A kind guard came to our rescue and I was relieved to leave alive! Back to the hotel for food, shower and bed. At least that was the plan. Turned out it was food, beer, whisky, beer, more beer, even more beer, shower then bed!
A tad tipsy but what a day!!!
