A Grand Tour of Greece With a Rubber Rat
Yassas! Puff pant!...cor this is hard for such a small rodent... got to do this quick as we're waiting for a train...
Well we darted through Kalamata (Where the olives come from, not the cheese worst luck!) and hit the bus timing just right and headed down to Koroni which is on the most Westerly of the three fingers of the Pelopennese. The scenery on this leg of the Pelopennese is just stunning, the most beautiful yet (We say this every day!) Each arm has its own very unique style. M & L are feeling much fitter now.
Those of you who know, M & L fell in love with a house & business there that they saw on a web site and although it quickly sold they want to study the area in more detail for future dreams (Nice & warm for us small furry types)... Arrived after dark and took the lonely planet optionof the Diana hotel, right in the middle of the main square and with a direct speaker feed from the Greek Orth church next door.
We head out to eat at a harbourside taverna and.....we bump into a couple we know from Wells!! how bizarre, Andreas & Silvia Strong who used to own the Cobblers guest house. Mark used to sell waterskiing stuff to their son & Jason the Wells policeman. We had a long chat & found that theyhave bought a holiday complex out here so we've arranged to meet up when we all return in May.
Next day we decode we love Loroni & want to stay fopr a day or two and find that the Zaga beach hotel is being prepared for the season and if we don't mid work going on around us we can stay real cheap! (We do of course!!) and take a room with a 'to die for' view across the sandy bay to the mountains. Little short of heaven.
Still pretty warm here, a couple of lazy beachy days plus a trip out to Methoni to see the fantastic Byzantine castle and a good hunt about the castle and monastery at Koroni. Lots of great eating here too, we learned a while ago that any taverna away from the seafront has to work harder for its income and does this by producing amazing food, so we always step a treet or two back to the less fancy looking places and indulge in our great love -food we've never eaten before.
OK Guys, got to miss out a bit of detail here, we set off early on the bus to Kalamata and are now about to get the 10am train (wed 19th) around the West to Patras where we will try to get top Diakofta & the famoous gorge. Take care all, will speak soon
M & L & el Rodente!!
