It was time for a sort of holiday! Daan flied to the airport of Bordeaux on Sunday morning, so I had to get up early, but it was worth it. We finally saw each other after 5 weeks. I really enjoyed our time together :D.
On Sunday we met at the airport and Daan took the bus, while I cycled to the hotel. When we arrived the room was not ready jet, so we walked a little bit around and ate some breakfast. After we left our stuff in the room we walked to the city to visit the shopping street and we climbed to the top of the Pey-Berland tower, with 233 steps. We also drank some rosé and visited the cathedral of Saint-André. In the evening we had dinner in a pizzeria and as desert we ate the homemade bokkenpootjes of Daan. Very nice!
The next day we relaxed a little bit before we ate breakfast in the city with a panini/sandwich and fries. After that we went to the tourist office and walked a part of the route along the places you should see in Bordeaux. And we lunched in the park with some bread. After we walked a long, but nice part along the river Garonne, we came back to the hotel and watched some movies. As dinner we ate the last piece of the bread with some wine from Bordeaux.
On Tuesday it was raining and we visited some shops and the basilica and clock tower of St Michel. In the afternoon we started looking for a nice restaurant, and there are a lot of them in Bordeaux! We chose to have dinner at l'Ombrière. As a starter I ate a very good French onion soup and Daan had a salad with goat cheese, walnuts and honey. As main dish I ate a steak with red wine sauce and fries, while Daan had 'tête de veau avec sauce gribiche', we think it were some brains of a calf. I think the sound is awful, but it tasted good. When it was dark we walked about 5 km along the Garonne, where we had a nice view on the boulevard.
Wednesday I surprised Daan with a brioche for breakfast in our hotel room. In the afternoon we walked through the botanical gardens to the Darwin spot with a biologic supermarket and a skating area. That was nice to see. But since the weather was not that nice and we already visited the most important things in Bordeaux, we went back to our room with a bottle of red Bordeaux wine and some snacks to watch another movie. When it became time for dinner, it was raining again and we went to the central pub, which is on the end of the street. We both ate a burger. Mine had bacon and egg and Daan's had one with ham. Very nice! And as desert we ate a piece of cheesecake with a sauce of red fruits. I enjoyed it!
The last morning it was Daan's turn to get breakfast and I slept a little bit longer. After we packed our stuff back in, we went back to the airport and kissed each other goodbye. After Daan went out of sight at the luggage check I also started my trip to La Teste de Buch. When I arrived at Gaetan's place we ate a tortilla as aperitif, what is a sort of thick omelet with potatoes and bacon. As main dish we ate a sort of ratatouille, but with sweet peper in stead of aubergine. Tasted good! And it was fun to talk with him about the Netherlands, because he had studied in Delft and knows more about us then just Amsterdam and smoking weed. ;p
