Kia Ora!
We arrived safely in New Zealand and picked up our hire car from the airport, a Toyota Platz, its not a bad little automobile. We had a drive around Auckland and found somewhere to stay the night.
Next day we had a walkabout in the city and then drove down to Roturua. As we approached the city there was stunning countryside and forests and all around as far as you could see were random patched of steam, it felt like we were on another planet, the whole area stinks of rotten egg from the sulphur. At our hostel therer was an indoor climbing wall, that was really good fun. I had to talk Rox into doing it, she was really scared at first but after she conquered her fear and was up there like a rat up a drain pipe. The next evenning, we went to a Moari culture show, that was excellent. We learnt about thier history, weapons, musical instruments, traditional songs and dance and of course they done a Haka.
We then had some hangi (food cooked underground in a earth oven) We then went for a walk in the dark and saw loads of glow worms. The following day, we went to the Wai-o-tapu Thermal Pack - its literally covered in collapsed craters, cold and boiling pools of mud and water and steaming fumaroles. It felt really prehistoric with all the rising steam, hissing vents, bubbling water and plopping mud. Dates back to 160,000 years of volcanic activity. The water underground is 300 degrees and on the surface, its 100. We saw Lady Know geyser which we saw errupt 10 metres in the air.
We then headed down to Lake Taupo - the size of Singapore.
Wellington was our next destination, we spent a few nights there. We spent one day looking around the musuem and exploring the city. We also went to a DnB night.
On Sunday, we then got the ferry across to the South Island!
