G'day folks!
Well long time since the last update, so here goes! Since we left Australia Zoo we headed to Hervey Bay where we stayed for 3 nights, met a nice (but crazy) chap in the the campsite, just hung around there, went to "Vic Hislops Shark Expo"....hmmmm not too sure I liked that! He's a shark hunter (as you all should know I love sharks) so I was a bit weary of what we were going to see, he had a real great white shark there in a freezer, was pretty gross really, wouldve much rather seen it alive! Then we went on a day trip to the beautiful Fraser Island! Cost us a small fortune but was well worth it! We had a legendary tour guide - Sally, who drove us round in a 4 x 4 coach, was a very rocky ride as the island is made of sand! Went to Lake Mackenzie, it was so clear and stunning, couldve stayed there all day!We took some underwater photos, just getting them developed now, so hopefully theyll show u lot how awesome it was!!:) Went to the Maheno shipwreck, Eli creek and the coloured sands there aswell! Was a great tour!:) Oh and had the best buffet lunch there too!yum!
Then we left hervey bay for Rockhampton, stayed in a campsite next to the Fitzroy river which was risky, seeing as there were signs everywhere saying "do not venture from campsite, crocs live on the banks of the Fitzroy river" haha! Then we reached Airlie beach, on the Whitsundays, and great barrier reef, wanted to take a day trip to see the reef but couldnt really afford it financially and timely! Were heading for ayers rock for matts birthday so under a tight schedule!:) Then we got to Charters towers, slightly inland and slightly 'hickville' but had a saltwater rock pool in the campsite!:) Then we did the drive of doom!9hours, 500 miles, 37 degrees C, vast dry lands, and made it to Mount Isa!Were inland now and its boiling!!:( not nice when your stuck in the van with no air con!The long drive was one of many and was hard work, look at the pics to see the land,so dry and hot and dead!hardly any cars around, some road trains which are massive lorries with 4-5 loads behind them! Not the easiest roads to contend with!but we made it!:)
Heading to Tennant Creek tommorow, then Alice Springs, then Ayers rock! Then we can get back to civilisation, feel a bit like were in a horror film, aka, Wrong turn, roadkill or the hills have eyes!!haha!
I'll leave it at that for now, but we are both doing good, hope you are all well!:)
Speak soon, love us travellers!:)
oh yeah, and HAPPY HALLOWEEN!:)
