Has it really been 2 months since my last blog post?? Really??
travelling is going well apart from the last 24 hours which was a knightmare.
I was travelling back from Bolivia and it was probably the worst journey i have had so far. The start was ok apart from an old bus, we when arrived at the border and had to wait for hours until it was our turn to get the passports stamped. we then had to have our bags checked whcih took ages and my rucksack was just about empited out, this meant i was delayed getting back onto the bus. when i saw the bus driver and said
should i get back on, he said to wait were i was, it was only when i saw some other
people from the bus getting on i decided to ask other bus driver who said i should be
on it already!! so i almost got left at the border of chile and bolivia at 9pm which
would have not have been funny!! then the bus droke down for about 50mins in the middle of the desert, then when we did eventually arrive at my stop which was about 1am ish, i almost missed it as i was asleep and they did not wake me, i finally heard them calling the stop i then had to jump out and they almost just left me in the middle of the street, they did eventually get a taxi, and he took me to the hostel i had booked, but because of the time the hostel was shut and not answering the doorbell. I managed to communicate to the taxi man to take me to another hotel and i eventually crawled into a bed about 2.30am.
I am now a very relaxed bunny and chilling out in the sunshine, well uploading photos, writing this etc etc..
I do have a bit of another knightmare journey ahead of me.... about a 31 hour journey back back to Santiago and then is will be off to Lima, Peru for a week of Spanish lessons and staying with a spanish family which could be interesting.
Well anyway, the last couple of months have been amazing. Just in case you have not seen the photos from Easter Island, it was a totally unique place. I know I have not seen a lot of the world, but it was just an awesome place to walk around. There are statues all over the Island and it has so much mystery, they still don´t really know what the people looked liked who lived on the Island. It is also covered in volcanoes. I spent the four days I had there walking around it. Two of the days I did about 7 hours walking, almost ran out water on one of the days. I could have spent at least another week there.
Returned to Santiago for a week long of spanish lessons. It did not start well as was told on the first day I had a test at 8am. Couldn´t use a dictionary so only just managed to fill in my details on the front. Got 0%, not a proud moment. The week was great fun have learnt about a few of the different verbs and learnt lots of words that I keep forgetting but I am getting better. It was really an interesting experience, going back to school and it did take a bit of getting used to. The teacher pretty much just talked spanish and I had to be switched on all the time. I will certainly remember and use the experience when I get back in front of a class again (not long now).
After the week I decided to head north as had been told about a 3 days 4x4 trek into Bolivia to see the largest salt falts in the world. The bus trip was comfy yet long (just under 24 hours)
Met some fantastic guys, Rowan, Brad and Sarah from Oz and we decided to head off on a 3 day trek and then head to La Paz (not on the plan). Sarah and I headed off that afternoon for a sopt of sandboarding. It was totally wicked. Although I had not been snowboarding ever, I still managed to stand up a fair bit, but also fell over lots. Sand was places sand should not be. That evening we ran into this mini parade with people dressed up like teddy bears dancing around. Very funny, and very Chilean.
The three day trek was outstanding. I will have to let the pictures do most of the talking. Every 3o minutes the scenery changed. We saw llamas, flamingoes, hot pools, volcanoes, rock trees, lakes, and staying in places seriously remote, reached heights of 4500m and stayed and in a hotel made up of salt bricks. The salt falts are just immense, 10582 sqkm and 3656 meter above sea level!!! We had lots of fun with silly photos. The whole trip was spectacular and was also down to the great company I had on the trip (may the wolf pack always remember the good times)
On my last full day in La Paz, one of of the may things you can do there is cycle the
Worlds Most Dangerous Road!! yes thats right they happily give anyone a bike and off you go in a group (organised of course). To be honest it wasn´t that scary. Although the road does in places go down to 3m and have a shear drop of about 600m, because you are on a bike and as there is a new road, so there is barely any traffic, it was just like cycling around the hills Wales. What didn´t help the "not being scared" was the fact that it was really foggy when we went so you couldn´t see the shear drops. It did however rain all day so we all got totally soaked and very muddy. My lovely yellow ski coat which some of you may know and hate to love, it now utterly wrecked, and as I discovered NOT water proof anymore.
It was a great expereince though and we did finish off at an animal park where we got to see monkeys (always fun).
Well as you read earlier I am back in Chile where I do have a bit of another knightmare journey ahead of me.... about a 31 hour journey back to Santiago and then is will be off to Lima, Peru for a week of Spanish lessons and staying with a spanish family which could be interesting.
This is probably my penultimate blogs as I only have 4 weeks left of what has been an amazing trip.
So goodbye for now.........
