Welcome to Australia people,
We arrived on the 4th April after a 9hr flight from Bali-Sydney-Cairns. Unfortunaltey Qantas left Ross's bag in Sydney so he had to wait a few hours while they flew it back up to Cairns for him, which was a bit of a pain in the arse as all he wanted to do was to have a shower and change into new clothes.
We were soon greeted by our hotel pickup and taken straight to Gilligans (hostel). The hostel is well known in Cairns due to it having a brilliant club underneath it, too which some people would find hell. We then got checked in and met our first set of roomies and thank god they were wicked. We took it easy that night and had a few bottles with our new friends and got an early night.
The next day we got up early and had a walk around Cairns, we were very suprised to see it was a very quiet town. We were both expecting tall skyscrapers and mad traffic but it was the totally different. At midday our buddy from home, Ross Smith himself arrived from England. We were both very pleased to see a familiar face, and that he finally made it here. He was suppose to be doing Asia with us but got a very strong liver virus which kept him bed bound for a good 2months.
During the day Ross M had to go back into hospital as his ear and sinuses were hurting too much. He got a week long programme on antibiotics and painkillers. That evening Ross Smith and Bradders got on the goon (wine) with the room mates. Ross M just drank redbull and water all night due to the tablets :( he found it very funny watching the other drunken people.
The next day we went on a Catermeran boat tour out to the Great Barrier Reef, both Ross S and Brad were feeling a bit worse for wear. The sea didn't help there cause as it was very bumpy and windy. After 2hrs of steaming through big waves we finally reached our snorkelling point. Most people couldn't wait to get off the boat and into the water. We were soon swimming around looking at the beautiful reef and fish. We even spotted 4 Turtles which we were stroking. After lunch and a little more snorkelling we headed back to mainland, and unfortunatley the weather had got worse.
The next day we headed down to the beach side lagoon which is a fresh water outdoor swimming pool with public BBQ's to use free of charge. So we went to a shop and brought some steak and sausages to munch with our room mates. The weather wasn't great when we were in Cairns, pretty much raining the whole time so when the sun slightly came out everyone got there swimsuits on.
The next day we did the same and left that evening to get to our next location in Australia which is going to be Airlie Beach and Whitsundays.
Overall we all loved Cairns, we met some wicked people who we are hopefully meeting up with in Sydney and possibley New Zealand. It could have been an amazing place if the sun had came out for us but you can't always have it your way.
