25.08.2014 Day three Jacksonville 30' and rain
Started the day with a trip to the Bank of America sorting out access to money while we are here. Note to self "don't use Loaded for Travel" again. You can only access your money via ATMs and if they aren't BoA ones you get charged $8 for every withdrawal. Also you have a daily limit on withdrawals from ATMs so it's tough if you need to pay a bigger bill. You can't use your card in any other way.
A trip to Ken's old place to continue searching for his stuff ended with frustration. Ken couldn't find some of the things he had left there, and I got bitten 19 times by charming bugs in the vegetation. My legs are an interesting pattern of swollen red lumps.
We came home and while Ken put his feet up, I wandered over to Publix supermarket. It's a kind of up-market New World. Arriving home and recognising it was 4pm, and still hadn't eaten so drove down to local Benito Plate bar.
It was superb and healthy and tasty and then we were on the road. 20ks out of Jacksonville on a busy road (sorry video not working at the mo' )and as evening fell - a turn off into a leafy tree filled suburb. Kids out on the road playing baseball, people sitting on their verandahs checking out the visitors as we drove by.
We went for a final visit with Ken's nephew Ricky and his family. What joy! Ken had forgotten the things he couldn't find earlier in the day were being held in safekeeping by Ricky. Mystery solved.
Ricky had cooked dinner, and excused himself as he popped a plate of dinner over the road for a neighbour who comes home late. What a guy!
Lovely little Brianna entertained us with exhibitions of her wonderful tumbling and gymnastics on the front lawn, and I got the chance to chat and meet with Ricky's lovely wife Valerie.
Home in the dark and with the rain cooling everything down. We are both a bit tired, but tomorrow we start off on our drive to New Orleans. Originally we were going to do this in one day, now we have decided to do it in two days, and spend the afternoon dropping into Ken's father's burial spot. It's so great that he is getting the chance to do all these important things.
