Absolutely amazing day tuesday... Got the Cruise Whitsunday boat from Airlie Beach and headed out to the Barrier Reef via Daydream and Hayman Islands.
About 3 hours to get there and so far out when you get there you can't see land in any direction, but wow!, it's incredible!
Cruise Whitsunday take you to Knuckle Reef, where they have a pontoon moored up. From there you can snorkle, swim, sunbath and amazingly, we decided to plump for a 30 minute Scuba dive session... I say amazingly, as Rach was nervous and i f*cking hate the sea!!! It was absolutely worth it though, an amazing experience... our first scuba dives and they were on the barrier reef of all places. Just amazing... interesting encounter with Wally, the resident Maori Wrasse... check out the photos!
Today we went ocean rafting round the Whitsunday Islands (said a special hello to Alan and Helen's Hamilton Island!) and ended up on Whitehaven Beach for lunch and a bit of beach soccer (me, not Rach!). If anything, the snorkelling we did yesterday on the way to Whitehaven topped that of the reef... so many fish, so near to you, nibbling at your arms! Highlight was rachel having a giggle fit and causing us both to nearly drown and swallow half the ocean!
Still hating the water... what's to stop sharks swimming where the fish do is the question i can't get out of my mind, but hey, we're still here, so far so good!
Setting off on the night bus for Hervey Bay tonight... 13 hours of Greyhound action! Should be a whistlestop tour of Queensland's late night service stations!
Planning to go whale watcvhing in Hervey Bay... Humpback Whale sightings are guaranteed until November 1st!
