Kep is not too far from Kampot so I arrived at 9am and then had the whole day to explore.
I organised a guesthouse right by the shore so I literally dropped my stuff and then started walking. I took the road along the coast until I reached the crab market which is supposed to be amazing for seafood, but it was still morning and I wasn't quite up to eating fish at that time of day. There were some street vendors just further up where women were selling waffles and buns so I bought some of those and ate as I walked. Similar to Kampot, Kep was a fashionable place for the French to live back in the day and so there are lots of old French villas, most in serious disrepair or ruin. I walked past a few and then found what I think was the King's Kep residence, although it looked more like a fancy bungalow than a palace! By this stage I had done a loop and was back where I started, so I walked along the coast the other way where there are several statues. The Fisherman's Wife was first and then a massive crab, although neither seemed to have much purpose. As I walked further along I passed loads of house plots with walls but no houses which was quite odd. The walls were all elaborate and looked very new but it didn't even look like there were any houses planned to go inside so I don't know what their purpose was! I did come across one amazing old villa which I would love to own, and it had amazing sea views across to Rabbit Island and Mango Island. By this time I was quite far away from the town centre so I got a tuk-tuk back and then spent the rest of the afternoon on the beach was a rather perfect end to the day!
