Rohin goes around the world
So much has happened here in Hawaii I just dont know where to start. Well I finaly got here which was a reliefe since when I got the aircraft it turned out there was 2 of us with the same seat number on our tickets. There was no way i was getting off an aircraft that had taken me 2 days to get on!!!
Found the Hostel pretty quickly and it turned out that I was right near the start of the triathlon and one street away from the the Hotel where the Aussie team was staying. Nice. Saw Jo very quickly late that night which was great. she looks a bit different without her hair and she was very focused but I suppose you get that with a world champs just days away.
My first night was pretty quite I soon made up for that on night 2.
I spent my first day just laying on the beach and body surfing. Ohhh so enjoyable and I only got a little bit pink too. That night a crew of us from the Hostel got things started with some drinking game using a deck of cards. Who ever made up that rule that all guys have to sing what they say should be shot, but still good excuse to have some fun. From here it was onto a night club for some random dancing and meeting of new peoples. I was well sorted thanks to the drinking game so a good dance was handy to sober me up a bit.
So with just 2 hours sleep it was race day and time for me to cheer on the Aussie team and more specifically Joanne. They had a good day for the race with cloud meaning it wasnt too hot and the winds were pretty low. It was good watching the race. Australia had a huge team there and even more supporters. It was like every 2nd supporter was and Aussie. I ran into Ryland, Jack and Lucy whome I raced Xterra with some 5 years ago. So we did a pretty good job of cheering in the crew.
There were some great results by the Aussies with medals in most catagories and in some even a few. Finally it was time to catch some much needed sleep. But being in a hostel meant it wasnt long till somebody dragged me out of bed to go and hike to some waterfall.
It was a nice hike but we got rained on and things got a bit slippery on the way down. The bus trip back though froze me to the bone with us being wet and the air con being on full boar.
So time to party it up with the Aussie team. It was a good night with cheap drinks that were going down pretty easy. It wasnt long till I decided to introduce a few people to the Jagger bomb whilst having some other people include me in their rounds of Tequilla. So I remember some dancing and meeting Jenny (a young tri girl form Perth) and the next thing I know im Skinny dipping in Hawaii.. BRILLIANT. Ok may have got a bit cut up on the coral but still lots of fun.
So it was off to Maui for 4 days to do some riding but unfortunatly I was coming down with a cold and it was coming in fast.
I did get out for a few rides though. 1 exploring ride, 1 attempt at riding up Haliakala volcano (rode 50kms, 2000 height meters and turned around at the pay station after 5 kms in a rain storm, just 11 miles from the top), and a lap of the smaller side of the island. There were some guys training from the Hostel for next weekends Xterra race so I was meant to meet one guy at 6am for this ride but didnt quite make it out of bed in time. So leaving 30mins late I decided to give chase. took me 70kms to catch him and by then I was pretty flogged, but still a nice ride.
The Hostel in Maui I was in was a pretty quite place. There was no bars near by and everything got shut up in the hostel at 11 so you pretty much had to go to sleep. Still being sick meant this was a good thing for me. One great thing about the hostel was its daily free tours to differnt parts of the Isalnd. My last 2 days have been spent beach hopping, snorkeling and enjoying $2 Mai Thais in bars whilst watching sunset and getting to know some new friends. Very enjoyable.
So im on my way to Kona right now where Phillipa, my british room mate has decided to come and join me. Why bother having that hotel room all to myself hey?
So 4 days of this holiday left. Wonder what trouble I can get up in that time??
