Heading into Christchurch later that afternoon on yet another rainy day in Canterbury’s capital, we did a couple of chores and continued on our way to Kaikora, getting lost a little along the way because of yet more roadworks! We arrived in Kaikora quite early in the morning, having freedom camped the night before (saw Predator on the laptop – Emma loved it!!!!) not too far away. There are few places in the world that have such a proliferation of marine based wildlife so close at hand: whales, dolphins, seals, penguins, petrels and albatross’s. So we decided to see a sheep sheering show!!! This was brilliant as we had own private tour and demonstration, as no one else showed up, however this didn’t mean we’d get a go, and didn’t stop the old dude doing the demonstration talking to the room like there was others there – bless. Treating ourselves to a campsite – wahoooo… we spent the night at one of New Zealand’s Top 10 Holiday Park’s but on this occasion it was number one to us! Having not showered for over two days the private Jacuzzi a sneaky bottle of wine and a stunning mountain view in the distance really made the rest of our day. The next morning, we were greeted by the beautiful blue skies that we had waited for, and so we could properly see the picture perfect scenery that we had missed the day before. We took loads of photos and definitely made staying the night well worth it, plus we were able to see the seal colonies up close, which was quite cool.
