Today was our last day in Thailand as we fly out tomorrow morning at 6:00 AM en route to Vancouver, BC.
To end things with a bang, we had a late breakfast at the fruit buffet in Bangkok's Bayoke Sky hotel. It is the city's tallest building at 83 stories although the buffet is only located on the 18th floor.
For 250 baht ( just under $9.00 CDN )we gorged ourselves on all the fresh tropical fruit we could stuff into our bellies in 90 minutes. When they set this price they did not anticipate how much damage two vegans could do to their supplies.
Lucky for them, because durian is not in season, we were only allowed one serving, but that was quite enough as it really was not at its peak. It will be in season in May and June and we will be certain to stick around next time we're in Thailand to take full advantage of all its glorious stinkiness.
The rest of the fruit, however, more than made up for the lackluster durian. The mangoes and pineapple were particularly exquisite and the sapodillas were the best we've had so far.
By the time we left at 11:10, our bellies were bursting, but many of the trays of fruit needed replenishing.
When we finished, we checked out of our hotel and wandered around Bangkok until 5:30 when we headed out to our hotel near the airport. We didn't have anything else to eat until about 7:00 PM!
We're both more than a little sad to be saying au revoir to this wonderful country and all its bounty, but we will be back here for another winter in the not too distant future.
