So, I would like to start with a little confession. . . . !
I was actually lying slightly in my last blog entry. . . . I was only really back in Bangkok for one night, as I was really heading back to the UK to surprise my mum for her birthday, so yeah, I did have the last night in Bangkok and yeah, I did go out with a bang, singing and all that. . . !
So yeah, after that night I nursed my hangover, well we all did. . . . Chilled around the pool again and then went for my last meal in Thailand for a while. . . . Martin and Redka met up with us again for the big fairwell, and no, it wasn't emotional really. . . . Claire, bless her, did you a little bit of a bottom lip, but she cries at neighbours, so I am not taking too much from that. . . . So I said my goodbyes around 9pm and jumped in the minibus for my ride to the airport. . . . I wasn't really looking forward to the 12 hour flight back to UK, however, it did seem very lame compared to some of the journey I have done over the last few months in Asia. . . .
It all felt a bit weird really, I am not sure when it will sink in, but hey, whatever. . . The minibus journey, was as normal as ever, the guy driving like he had stolen it, got us there in lightening time, I got checked in OK and headed for the departure lounge, which I would like to add, was pretty crap. . . I expected more from Bangkok. . . . ?!?!I was hoping to get on the internet and confirm to Ruth (In London), if she was going to meet me at the airport. . . . Ruth, who I met in Malaysia and went with to the Cameron Highlands had offered for me to stay with her in London before I headed back to Derby and I saw this as a great opportunity for us to catch up and me to acclimatise a bit. . . . . . !
Well, no internet in the departure lounge left me feeling a little concerned, no contact or confirmation. . . . That aside, I climb aboard the monster plane and got settled. . . One thing that stood out while waiting to board was that there was a sort of filming thing going on, a small production team filming around 20 ethnic village people, from what looked similar to what I had seen in Vietnam. . . I know that isn't that interesting, but the point I am getting to is that 2 of the production to plonked themselves next to me on the plane, turns out one was the producer and I assume the other washer assistant. Now they seemed nice enough, although they did take there time to get seated. Once we were up in the air the producer lady kept getting up, either climbing over me or asking to get past. . . . This pretty much continued for the whole of the journey (well, it seemed that way anyway!). It was obviously quite a long journey, plus it was overnight, so I was actually hoping to get some sleep, but with all the constant interruptions, food, etc and being overtired, I struggled to get any sleep. . . ! I did however watch three movies. . . . . !
Well I got to London Heathrow on schedule and while walking towards the luggage collection I chatted to an English lad, who sarcastically asked if I had had a good nights sleep. . . . He was sat behind us and had seen me having to get up and down a lot. . . . ! Through to the arrivals bit, all I could see was businessmen pickups with no sign of Ruth, so I thought I would get a coffee and try and get on the internet to see if she had emailed with her plans. . . .Once sat in the coffee lounge area, I was busy taking my laptop out when I heard a familiar "Hello you". . . . Bless her, Ruth had known that I couldn't have got internet in Bangkok, so got up extra early to meet me before having to go to work!
We had a coffee and a quick catch up before jumping on the Underground to head into London. Ruth gave me her flat keys and directions, then I left her at London Bridge stop to change trains. . . . After a few changes and a 10 minute walk I was in her flat. . . ! Unfortunately being a teacher Ruth couldn't have the day off, however this proved OK with me as I had free run of her internet and food, before crashing out in her bed for a few hours. . . . !
Ruth got back around 4.30pm, only to find my drooling all over her pillows. . . . We had some food and a bottle of wine and chatted for ages, before heading out to meet up with some of her friends. . . To be honest I wasn't that bothered about going out, as I felt a bit like a zombie (jet lag and all). However, we did go out and once out I felt a little better, well that was until I had to buy some drinks. . ! "Welcome to London, England, that'll be £10 for two drinks, thank you sir"! Ten pounds. . . ! Do you know how long I could live off that in Vietnam? Lol, I know, reality! We met up with a few of Ruths friends and then after a few drinks in this pub (I had a couple of pint of London Pride), we headed off to a new club. . . It was only around 9pm, but you had to get in early!
The place was really coolio, based in some of the train station tunnels. . . . ! It had a really strange, but cool feeling about the place. . . However by this point, I was really starting to feel tired and Ruth was showing signs of her reaction to alcohol, bless her, she doesn't need much to get drunk. . . ! So, we made an executive decision to leg it. . . . . ! We got back to hers and crashed out. . . ! Slight problem occurred later though, although I had stayed up my body clock was still in Asia and therefore decided to wake me. . . . ! So I was awake from around 5am. . . . I unfortunately woke Ruth also, so we got up pretty early and headed out to the local shop to get some bits for breakfast. . . .
After breaky and reading the papers for a bit we headed out as Ruth had a plan to take me out and about. . . . We had a really nice day walking down the South Bank of the river Thames and although it was pretty chilly, it felt nice and fresh. . . . ! We visited one of the famous markets there and just mozied on round pretty much all day, until our legs decided they had had enough!
On the market we bought some of the stuff I had been really craving while away for the evening, nice bread, some great cheese (stilton), some olives and some mushroom (hummus) style paste. . . . ! This, movie and some nice red wine made for a great evening. . . . We had sort of talked about maybe going out, but decided to stay in which was nice. . .
The following day (Sunday), we did pretty much the same, headed out to a different part of London, Ruth checked out a few shops and we went to a clothes market place area, followed by a really nice late lunch. . . !
Ruth had been feeling pretty run down, so we called it a day and headed back home, I think the combination of early morning ( thanks to me), cold weather and maybe a little bug from school, she was really not feeling it. . . . So at home, we chilled out for the evening and had an early night. . . . Ruth was up early for school and I had a big day ahead, I was going home! My train was leaving St Pancras at 9.25, so I got up too and packed my bags, ready for the off!
I said my goodbyes to Ruth and an hour or so later I was at the station. . . I really fell on my feet with the train ticket. . . Checking online a few days earlier I managed to get a promotional ticket for £29 first class, plus breakfast. . ! happy days.
So that's me guys. . . . ! The world meets Bobby is over. . . Well not quite. . . I am actually heading off again in January, so sharing the love continues. . . . This is merely a nice stop off to refuel, see the family and catch up with some of you guys. . . . Rumour has it I may also do a bit of work for a few weeks. . . . Well, lets not get carried away!
So, this isn't the end of the blog, my story continues. . .
I will leave it there for now as I am about to pull into Derby station and you know what I am feeling a little emotional. . . ! Welcome home me!
Thanks for all your support and kind messages guys. . . . . See you all for a beer in Seymours!
