Malaysia Sept 2011
Day 1. 03.09.11.
After a pleasant journey of 2 six and half hour flights with a stop over of an hour in Dubai, finally got to KL. Only one hours sleep on the journey so felt pretty rough on arrival. Got to the hotel 'Shah Village' in Petaling Jaya. Hotel looked lovely with palm trees and swimming pool. What a disappointment when getting to the room. Dirty, smelly and not very functional. Tv faced away from the bed. Only 1 plug socket and none of the promised connection to internet. It got worse! A colleague found mouse (or possibly rat) droppings in her bathroom and after being about to jump in bed I threw back the quilt to find a large dead cockroach in the bed! Thank God I packed the mummy liner (I would recommend everyone gets one if these for their travels!). The hotel
Staff were just past useless. Luckily our partners in country organised another hotel after we complained and we moved out! Sad, as the hotel itself was nice in a pretty good location. If I'd been a 21 year old traveller, I'd have let it go, but as an old fart out here on intensive work, I prefer to be comfortable.
After a busy day assessing Our Malaysian students (who are always a pleasure to be around, so polite and respectful) we eventually checked in at Holiday Inn, Glenmarie. This is a bit off the beaten track and is quite secluded. A large complex with a golf course. At least the rooms are clean, functional and working and there are useful amenities here for us. A little pricy for some aspects such as Internet, but better than sharing a bed with a large bug! Just worked on my presentations for tomorrow for a couple of hours. Having new teammates here means everyone is open to new experiences so we will get to the city and around again! I enjoy being tour guide and never tire of the wonderful Kuala Lumpur and the fantastic personas towers and night markets! The food is also great! Such variety!
Till the next time.........,.
