Travelling from Towcester
I guess we wouldn't be interested in this website if we didn't like traveling, but sometimes the actual journey to some beautiful, far flung, part of the world can be a bit boring. Obviously I don't mean in the airport or on the plane (well the queuing, security, waiting at the gate, boarding, waiting for take-off, landing, immigrations and customs aren't that great), but the getting to the airport can seem a real waste of time.
,
From when I'm ready to leave the house to when I enter my local airport can sometimes be 3 hours or more. When you reach your destination it's all worth it of course (unless you make the mistake of visiting Tokyo between Christmas and New Year when it is mainly closed), but that journey time is a bit of your life you are never going to get back.
So I write about my travels overseas (or actually I do notes which I fully intend to expand into amusing articles in the near future), but rather ignore the beautiful country in which I live.
However a week ago I had an early morning meeting in Henley in Arden, which Google Maps revealed was quite close to Stratford upon Avon and therefore theoretically less than an hour from home. I decided to allow 2 hours as I felt confident I would be delayed, but despite a new dual carriageway that my sat-nav hated and therefore a 12 mile diversion I actually drove into the High Street within 50 minutes from leaving home.
It all looked rather lovely, I had my camera and almost an hour to spare and decided to take a few photos which I've posted here. All old buildings, loads of flowers and a nice autumnal feel (which is to say it was rather cold).
I would definitely recommend a visit to Henley, but certainly suggest timing your visit for a little later than 7:30am as, not unlike Tokyo in late December, it doesn't seem to have many things open at that time in the morning (although it allows you to avoid having to include people in your snaps). However the numerous pubs, restaurants and coffee shps promised a fine time later in the day.
Finally I should note that there are many fine views as you walk back along the main road, but my spare camera battery was in the car and so I cannot share them.
Beautiful place, much closer to my home than the airport or the coast, but to be fair possibly further from your home.
I am now fired with enthusiasm to visit local towns and villages.

Jamie Very disappointed with staff, service & food. Food mediocre, Service poor, waiters inattentive and rude. Staff member accused me of changing my babies nappy as she could smell a bad smell, as I was putting on babies coat. I explained I was only putting on babies coat and baby did not have a soiled nappy as she had just been changed in the toilets which did not have baby changing facilities.
Robin Michel That's dreadfully. You have every reason to be disappointed and unhappy.Although I did not get a chance to visit any restaurant in the town I did note that there are quite a few, so I would still recommend a visit to the area.
