First stop Nepal. We did a well known 3 day trek in the Annapurna Range in Western Nepal up Poon Hill (about 10,000ft). We were meant to see 18 mountain peaks from the top but unfortunately the weather was not all it was cracked up to be for the time of year (beautiful, clear not to hot and not too cold), so we saw nothing, just cloud and mist (I felt like I was just up a hill in Scotland!!).It was still an achievement to climb to nearly 10,000ft.
We also did white water rafting in Nepal on a river in the east called the Bhote Kohsi for 2 days. This was also one of the best things we had both done. The first day was a warm up with some rapids but really just getting used to paddling and the commands shouted by the guide. The main thing is that everyone on the boat paddles in unison, whether backwards or forwards. The second day brought out the big guns, the rapids were relentless and mostly type 4 and 5 (5 being expert). The rapids were so string that at one point one of the guys actually fell overboard and Robbie had to do a white-water rescue! It has certainly wetted our appetite for a longer rafting trip at some point.
As the weather was not so good in Nepal it stopped us going to Nagarkot (viewpoint from which you can see Everest). Instead we decided to go to a place called Budanilkantha as very nearby was a national park called Shivapuri. We go hoped off the crowded local bus in Budanilkantha and realised there would be nowhere to stay.Luckily for us, an American lady called Ellie pulled up in an old Suzuki and confirmed our suspicion's, then she invited us to stay!We stayed in her lovely guesthouse in the garden and were really spoilt. We ate homemade ice cream and pizza, watched movies and played basketball.
All in all we have enjoyed Nepal with the highlight being white water rafting. Disappointed with the weather but what can you do!
