Well Chappies,
Spent a brief but interesting 24 hrs in Hiroshima staying with an aptly named American couple called Beverley and Joel!!! They run a world friendship organisation and rent out rooms in their house at a supposed non profit! We read in the lonely planet guide that small tatami rooms caost 3500 yen, bout 20 quid! Anyway, we thought bargain, we ll stay with the anti war pro peace patriots, what the hell, cheap as chips right???
Well, hopped on the shinkansen from Kyoto down to Hiroshima, and was greeted at the door by Bev... who led us into her front room to give us a little chat about peace and the peace park! Thank God it was 2 o clock and she wanted us to spend at least 2 hrs in the museum learning bout the war before it closed so she let us go... with the threat of a documentary on video and question time when we came back! Wouldnt have been so bad if old Bev possessed a personality, sadly she didnt and was one scary lady!
Spent the afternoon in the peace park and hid round Hiroshima that evening til near enough curfue which was 10ish! Snook up straight into bed!
Next morn Joel bless him who we hadnt met chatted with us over a very delicious breakfast, mostly war and politics of course! There was also a very odd young Montreal couple staying, actually odd is too polite, they were weird as! So you can just imagine the strained conversations!
Hiroshima is a lovely little city, very quite and surprisingly easygoing, with a beautiful peace park! Tell you what we were just saying that if we were American we would feel slighly awkward there cos when you see images of the innocent victims of which the majority were its very poignant but mostly sickening. Though at least the exhibition is somewhat objective and the Japanese were no angels.
K, enough serious chat, stay tuned for the next installment from Tokyo...
