Leigh's Travels
Have visited 3 islands so far and this one is better than Noumea and Isle of Pines or what we saw of them anyway.
We jumped in a mini bus as it went along the road, with two other Aussies in the back. They had negotiated a 3 hour tour of the island for $100 and the driver wanted to ask for more when we got in but I was able to keep him at the the same deal and now we divide by 4. We are happy and I think the driver is too. So many men harassing passengers for their custom. It is a cut throat business.
Very warm and humid. It is easy to understand why the ladies wear loose fitting shifts all the time.
We are enjoying our time on board especially the shows, performers and movies. The food is great too.

Steve Shedden Lucky things. One of my favorite places, Efati is part of Paradise. Port Vila is an interesting town with Melanesian, French and British influences, being ruled as a French-British Condominium until 1980 (two government houses, two flag poles; each morning when the flags were raised their heights were checked for equality with a surveyor's theodolite!) Author James A Michener drew on his experiences in Vanuatu (New Hebrides) with the US Navy during WW2 to write his highly successful series of 'South Pacific' stories. My Dad spent sometime at the big US Naval base on the island of Espirito Santo (the scene of Michener's not so fictiticous 'Bali Hai' story) after his warship, HMAS Hobart, was badly damaged by a Japanese torpedo in 'the Slot' (Solomon Islands area) in July 1943. Look out for the WW2 vintage Coca Cola bottles on sale around Efate. Each bottle is marked with its US city of origin.
Kerryn Hi Leigh & Alan - sounds like you are already having real adventures. The ship sounds just lovely but I'm still glad it's you and not me - LOL. Nothing to report from home. Still lovely weather although we are to get showers today. Enjoy it all - xoxoxoxo
