18.-21.8.2008 English Update
We arrived at the Newark airport at 19.00 o'clock. From there we started driving to JFK to pick up our fourth member Lauri. We took a wrong turn only about three times. There were even more difficulties in finding our first motel. Of course, at that point the battery of our laptop, which we use to navigate, was depleted. After a 24 hour wake, we got to sleep. That basically was our first day.
19th was a much better day, only two wrong turns this time (we missed all the big interstate exits...). We hung around for a while in a town called Brunswick and found a really cool breakfast place there, a very small diner. We then decided to drive to Boston and got about halfway there before we had to call it a night and sleep off our jetlag in a random motel.
20th started early so that we could get to Newton, a town near Boston, before noon. There we had arranged to meet Jukka's friend Sol. We picked him up and his friend Mike too. After about a half an hour drive we got to Marsfields State Fair. And the food: as our hosts put it: "Disgusting." (but surprisingly good, though). There was also a five-year-olds motocross event(!). Naturally. When we got back from the fair, Mike's family was kind enough to take us in for the night, and we really can't thank them enough for that. We Finns really aren't used to such hospitality. In the evening we went to their usual place, Publick House, for a couple of drinks. Really cool place. And great beer too.
As a sidenote; It's still quite hard to remember when to tip.
Weather here has been sunny and hot all the time.
21th was another great day! We hung around for a while at Mike's house in the morning. Watched some baseball and soccer. We went to downtown Boston where Sol and Mike showed us around the city. Boston is a beautiful city and place for some wise words as well. In the Commons park there was this man, about our age, who was answering questions Truthfully for 25 cents. We gave him the money and Sol asked where we should go. The answer? Go somewhere where there are a lot of ladies. That's true wisdom! (Of course not for me Jenni, kisses). He also suggested that we should visit Grand Canyon. Sol and Mike took us to their favourite Mexican restaurant. We all had Super Burritos, a king sized burrito. Sol and Mike didn't praise the place for nothing, they we're really damn delicious. Around six pm it was time to thank them both and depart for Chigago. After finding the best motel to date and hagling the price down about 40% we got ourselves a nice place to prepare for the long drive ahead.
