English update 22-24
Looong drive from Massachusett to Chicago, Illinois. We took Mike's dad's advice and decided to take a more scenic route through southern NY State. And it was totally worth it: even though we only passed the Catskill State Park, the scenery surrounding it was pretty darn awesome. We took a detour to Ithaca, NY, solely because the University of Ithaca was featured on the movie Road Trip. Except it wasn't - we found out the film was shot on a different location altogether. Oh well, I for one enjoyed Ithaca: a quaint little town located on a bottom of a huge valley. That night we wasted our money on a motel called DeSoto. A load of crap for a lot of money. From this day on we started measuring the quality of motels by our very own DeSoto-index...
When we finally arrived at Chicago (the Great Lakes are truly great, btw) we stumbled upon a really shady neighbourhood in eastern Chicago and very nearly booked a motel from there too. Luckily reason won in the end and we ended staying in another crappy motel (but this time on a better area). We took a couple of beers in our very first (and propably last) Hooters and called it a night. The next day was reserved for sightseeing: Sears tower, Millennium Park, downtown Chicago... A huge, crowded city but I liked it. Too much to see, too little time, so we headed out towards Midwest as the sun started setting.
