Patpong Markets
On our second day, still feeling quite jet lagged, we decided to get fit and take full advantage of the gym, which in hindsight, for me, was a huge mistake. We went down at 7am for a work out sesh and after about 10 mins I couldn't take anymore as I was so tired from jet lag! Scott powered on and I went for a little nap! We have use of the "executive Lounge" which is on the top floor of the hotel and serve snacks and drinks so people with this privilege and also a little lounge away from.the commoners !
There's also a great view of the city and you can see to the river and a few temples.
In the day we decided to explore a little bit didn't have a proper plan on where to go so got duped into being taken to some sort of tailor shop in a Tuk Tuk and also to a tourist info centre where we have planned our next route. A 12 hour "VIP" coach journey to the north of Thailand called Chaing Mai with a hostel stay included for two of us which was around £50 each. It's a pretty decent deal, buts it's gonna be long one!
After getting dropped in a more central shopping location we looked around a shopping mall but decided there was nothing we wanted to see around this particular area and headed back to the hotel to make the most of the sun by the pool, seeing as it was predicted to thunderstorm. Luckily it didn't, so we had a good few hours in the sun but couldn't hack much more as it was SO HOT!
In the executive lounge it was happy hour from 530-730pm so we got read and had a few drinks and snacks before heading to Patpong street markets. Obviously by Tuk Tuk. Tuk Tuks are these fast little motor powered open taxis that speed along and weave through traffic. No better way to travel! These markets are your typical tourist attraction where they sell crafts, designer knock offs and loads of "cheap s***", which we love ! We managed to haggle cheap hats and pants for Scott (because he really stupidly only brought one pair of boxers!) and I got a travellers backpack and side bag. There's so many places to eat around this here and we ran into a street area known as Japan town, so naturally I fancied some ramen! We are at a Tonkhotsu Ramen joint (this means pork broth with noodles) and we had the most amazing food. It was delicious and so tasty i could eat that all day long ! Scott had asked for his food extra spicey and when the waitress asks ignite was spicey enough he said no, so she got the chef to make him some special sauce. They brought or some coated chicken wings with a dip that looked like it would cause forest fires. Scott put loads of it on a wing as the chef and waitress watched and was fine at first, but after a few minutes the spice sweats and coughs came on ! Don't mess with the Thai spice!
After this delicious feast, we went for a little walk and to a karaoke style bar which had a live Thai band doing covers of old songs. We had loads of fun and arranged with one of our Tuk Tuk drivers to pick us up in the morning to take us to the old side of Bangkok to see all the temples !
Catch you all on the flip side xxx
