So the flight from Brisbane to Singapore was one of the easiest i've had to do since travelling. Strange that a 7hr flight would've once seemed like a long flight to me but now seems quite short. I watched Ghost Town (good) and The Wrestler (good, but not as good as everyone is saying)on the flight.
Got to singapore and got the MRT to Little INdia and found my hostel really easily. The hostel there was really nice. Small but clean and friendly. On my first day here i met up with Caroline, a girl who we'd kept bumping into in Oz and NZ. We booke our respective buses to Kuala Lumpur and had a walk around town. Singapore city centre is a mass of absolutely huge shopping malls. Which is really cool but also annoying if you ran out of 'real' money a while back! Had a curry that night where the food was all served on a bana leaf instead of a plate. Plus it cost about 4quid for the food. Unfortunately, the beer was less cheap. Booze is quite dear in Singapore and Malaysia, rubbish!
On my second day in Singapore i went to the island of Sentosa. Its a sort of amusement park/botanic gardens with beach resorts and the like. Got the cable car over which was really cool. Mucked around on the island for a while and went to the beaches. Got the monorail and cable car back and had a walk around by the river and saw the original landing place of the British in Singapore.
The next day i got a bus to KL. It only took 6hrs and the bus was amazing. It had electric massage chairs! I was so impressed. I found my hostel really easily and fell asleep. The red palm hostel in KL was just so nice. Small place but really clean and just....cool. Free breakfast and free tea/coffee/CAKE! all day too. I went out at night and saw the Petronas towers, which used to be the tallest buildings in the world. Had my tea here too- BBQ chicken, rice and a coke for the princely sum of 1.60pounds.
The following day i had a wee walk around KL before giving in cos it was too hot-about 36C. Went for a quick shop to buy books cos i needed reading material cos i was about to get on a train to Bangkok. Journey time-39hrs!
The first night was fine. Even though i didnt sleep it was all quite new and my berth was surprisingly comfortable. But then i got to Butterworth....at430am. There was nothing there apart from a train station and no lockers for luggage. So i dragged my bags on to the ferry for Georgetown. It was a bizzarre moment. Pitch-black, 5am, on a tiny ferry headed for somewhere i couldnt see and i was one of two westerners on the boat! The other one was a belgian guy called oliver. Gerogetown was dead when we got there so i tagged along with him til he could find a hostel where i hoped i could leave my bags while i walked around til i got on the train again at 2pm. They didnt. So i had to drag my bags around georgetown for the next 4hrs. I got fed up and got the fery back to Butterworth and fell asleep in the train station. The train to Bangkok was so so full and i ended up with a whole Indian Family at my table but it got quieter as the day went on. I got served my food at my table and actually managed to get to sleep on a train for the first time ever. We had passed through border control earlier and i arrived at Bangkok at 11am the following day.
