We arrived at our pre-booked hotel/casino/circus and joined the long queue to check in. The foyer area is very busy and feels more like an airport, complete with tacky souvenir shops! We check in for 4 nights and settle in to our new home!
After a quick look around our casino we go off and view 'the strip' from the outside! Its quite a long road but its lined with huge, money spinning casinos with hotels included each with their own theme, most of which are self-explanatory. Theres New York New York (with a scaled down statue of liberty), Caeser's Palace (with plenty of Roman statues), Paris (with a miniature eiffel tower), The Venetian (with its own canal), Treasure Island (with its own pirate ships) and, of course, The Bellagio. Then theres the new, $2.1bn Wynn casino which has its own Ferrari garage by the entrance!
We went out one night to Coyote Ugly in New York New York where, if you haven't seen the film, the girls dance on the bar and pour drinks down your neck! It wasn't just the staff that were dancing on the bar though, Sam and Becks showed them how its done!
On a another night we went downtown to marvel at the Fremont St Experience. There is a massive tv screen that arches over the street from one side to the other and stretches for about two blocks accompanied by a state of the art sound system. From 7pm the screens come to life every hour playing a different clip that lasts for about 10 minutes. Its very impressive and you don't even need to look directly up because of the distance it stretches down the street. The street is rammed with people and filled with neon covered casinos. There's also some very impressive street performers including motorcyclists riding inside a small dome and a guy creating amazing pictures using just spray cans.
Throughout our Vegas stay we hardly gambled any money, mainly sticking to the cheap slot machines and we took advantage of the free drinks! As long as you're sat at a table or slot machine, a cocktail waitress will bring you free drinks of your choice and will only expect a dollar tip in return so we had quite a few whilst in the casinos!
We went in to a lot of the casinos, mainly just to see what they were like. The most impressive is the Wynn because its the newest and you can tell that a lot of money has gone into it - its very posh. The other two that stood out for me were Caesers Palace because of the interior décor and the Bellagio because it seemed to know it was held in high regard - it oozed style - and the fountains outside. Sam liked the Venetian because of the canal and the imitation painting of the cistine chapel ceiling inside. Most had something to attract though and all had shops, bars and buffet restaurants to make sure you never had to leave!
Talking of buffet restaurants, we couldn't visit Las Vegas and not indulge. Our very own casino had a decent buffet that we enjoyed to the max on our first night and we had a buffet lunch in the downtown area on our last full day that stuffed us equally as much!
It was a great place to visit and we had lots of fun but 4 nights was probably enough especially as we're not gamblers and we can't afford to go to the good clubs every night! Its a fun place to visit though even if its just to watch the big gamblers lose hundreds every hand!
