This morning dan and I set the alarm and had left camp by 7.50am. We arrived at the canoe hire site by 8am and by 8.10am we were in the river. The weather was gorgeous and we were almost alone on the river. The water was warm and still and perfectly clear. After a while and a small battle of wills we had it figured and had negotiated our first set of rapids. The next set we somehow managed to get the canoe turned round and went through the rapids backwards. Miraculously we didnt over turn and though repeating the same mistake at the next set we stayed afloat for the whole 8k. We were shattered but exhilarated! What was funny was the bus that was picking us up to take us back to the shop had ten customers in who were starting where we finished all getting very thorough briefing which had not been given to Dan and I!?!
