We arrived in La Serena after just a short 6 hour bus journey from Santiago, it was a really cute town by the sea and was used for hoidays by the locals. We checked into a hostel right in the centre, A lovely lady answered the door who didnt speak a word of english, so our rather sketchy spanish was put to the test! We even managed to barter for the room and get it cheaper! After dumping our bags in the room (they seemed a lot heavier after a month of not carrying them) we headed out to explore the town! As our luck had it, it was the annual festival in La serena and there were markets stalls lining the streets and a stage set up for famous chilean bands!...Not that we'd have a clue who was singing although Rich did have his personal favourite after some lady gave quite a few 'Aaaaarrrrreeeebbbbaaaa's!', soon all the locals were up and dancing and everyone in the whole town seemed to know the steps! Athough we were tempted, we resisted the urge to embarrass ourselves and join in and settled for singing along in our worst interpretation of Spanish ever! The next morning we were up around 9 and apparently this is not the done thing on a sunday, we literally saw 2 people on our way into town so we retreated back to bed for another few hours sleep! We made our way down to the beach where the surfers were taking advantage of some pretty good waves, while in Aus we thought we were pretty damn good we didnt fancy our chances here! Our next stop was to be San Pedro, a mere 16 hour bus trip!
