Exploring the known and unknown
Day 3 Port Macquarie out and back 380 km
As we were staying here 2 nights, the option was given to take a rest day! Sure - as if… The route was great as we headed north again along the coast to and past many places I had never been. For some time, I thought I was in Holland we rode along a calm river with green grass and Friesian cows. Via many side tracks we rode past several coastal lookouts with magnificent views over the ocean. A few interesting places along the way: the Trial Bay Goal- an abandoned prison which has been turned into a museum and perched right on the cliff's edge. The jail was used to house prisoners of war during WW1. The second interesting stop was "The Pub with no Beer" However the claim may be false as the original “Pub with no beer” was in Ingham in North Qld. and made famous by the Slim Dusty song which ends with the lyrics:
“But there’s nothin' so lonesome, so morbid or drear
then to stand in the bar of a pub with no beer”
Interesting, but if you want to order a beer, they will still pour you one.
