Rising at 04.00 to make it for a 06.00 flight to Melbourne and then a straight forward checkin for the 09.30 fight to Jakarta. Tony and I were able to get an exit row over the wing and once we had taken off Tony was able to move across the isle to give us even more room. The flight was uneventful and we landed after the 7 hrs 20 mins flying time at around 2pm local time. After collecting our luggage and clearing immigration we headed outside to meet our driver to the hotel. To say it was hectic out side is an understatement but we eventually met the driver (would have been a lot easier if I correctly read my email instruction). We made it the hotel after experiencing some of Jakarta traffic. The Somerset Berlian is located out in one of the residential areas of Jakarta. It was nice to meet the staff including Kia (property manager -my boss when I do the exchange) and Erik (Duty manager - who is heading to Australia as part of the exchange). We made arrangements to meet up for dinner later also found out that Ramadan had just started (fasting from sunrise to sunset for Muslims) after a quick unpack we headed out to explore the area. Returning after a round about walk we met up with Kia and Erik and headed to a food court at a shopping centre nearby. We let Kia and Erik order and I am sure that they stayed very much on the mild side of hotness saying this the food was excellent. Returned to the hotel and had a quiet night in.
