Slept in, read my book in the the hammock, swum and just relaxed before a 7 hour bus to Chiclayo. It took so long I managed to finish my book, Lone wolf by Jodi Picult, and watch Malificence, plus have many hours of pure boredom. Along the way we had to stop at police checks and have our bus searched, plus were all videotaped getting on the bus to prove/identify who was on the bus. It is all because they are trying to stop so many buses from getting robbed which is really bad in the north of Peru at the moment. Makes it all a bit scary. The drivers here are just as crazy as Ecuador. I watched as we over took a truck with one coming straight towards us. It was pretty freaken close to us not making it! Of course like everywhere horns we used and we carried on.
I was quite ill in the morning. I was unsure what has caused it but I wasn't too happy. Could have possibly been the market strawberries that I didn't really wash properly. Headed with the group to Huaca Rajada/Split tomb Sipain archeological complex. It's an museum on the discovery of the archeological site of the Moche people and was uncovered about 27 years ago. Incredible place! The Moche we here before the Inca in around 200 to 400 AD. They had some amazing jellewery. It was all made from gold, copper, silver and torquise stone. Sad to hear some of the treasures were stolen by tomb raiders and the jewels melted down for the little gold they had in them. Also visited a witches market. Interesting place. Apparently they have stuff to fix everything. Such as small muscles, bowel problems, nervous system problems and even sexual disfunction. Here we even seen the fist fights on video that occur in the Highlands of Peru. These are done by men and women to see who will get the good harvest. Pretty brutal!
Back on the bus for four hours to get to Trujillo. Awesome landscape on the way. It's a desert but it is really close to the sea. There is also so much rubbish around and heaps of chicken farms. And heaps of little run down settlements.
