Travel for 4 hours to Baños, which is translated to toilet town. Such a wonderful little town of 20,000 people. Definitely aimed at tourists but still pretty amazing. It kind of reminds me of Queenstown.
I was well and truly ready for some food that doesn't include rice, it seems that every single traditional dish (even steak and chips) includes rice! Tried a massive chocolate pancake that was bigger than my plate, a hamburger that tasted like off meat, and spent a night teaching our 65 year old, Norman, and Kieran what shisha is.
Lots of awesome activities to do here. Walked up to the statue called Mirador Virgin. Had a great view over the town, but definitely go the lungs going as we are at a higher altitude. Went on a van tour of the waterfalls located around the town, finishing at the Devils Cauldron where we called walk behind the waterfall. Here we were lucky enough to see a hummingbird up close, the are so majestic. Also had a Mealy Amazon Parrott stand on my arm. Pretty cool bird up close. All I could think about was how scared Zara would be!
Walked up to the tree house with the swing. My favourite place so far on the trip. It was so awesome, and so peaceful! It's exactly like the pictures. And best of all there was hardly anyone else there. Highly recommend it!
On the final day Rebecca, Norman, Leigh and I went canopying. Here we canopied 850m, walked on the 120m long and 30m high swing bridge, rock climbed 90m before a 300m canopy back to the start. A lot of adrenaline for one day, but definitely worth it. I would have to say, I may have to work on my rock climbing!
To finish the trip to Baños, went to the zoo to see the puma and jaguar (not a very nice zoo) and soaked in the hot pools. The water for the pools comes from the volcano that surrounds Baños. The same volcano that is active so we have been on stand by for evacuation at any point.
