I arrived in Hue after another long bus trip of 12 plus hours and it was sweltering. I took a little walk round the town and bumped into a lad that I'd met in Dali in China so I arranged to meet him and his mate Haskell in the DMZ bar later on that night. The second thing you look up in your lonely planet after accomodation are the lively bars, on occasion you do do this the other way round. So that was my first night out sorted!
There didn't appear a great deal to do otherwise, so i booked a motorcyle tour for the next day which basically gets it all covered in 5 hours.
I ended up getting rained in the DMZ bar when I met Tom and Haskell so it ended up a bit later than i thought. This happens a lot in rainy season countries, ask anyone! I was a little fuzzy headed when my guide picked me up and it was still hot as hell, but the tour was good. We went to the Citadel, Thien Mu Pagoda, Tomb of Tu Duc and a few other sites. It was also interesting to hear what the guide had to say about life in Hue. Rice farmers get about $4 for a 9 hour day, you pay $18 a month to go to school, and you pay for all medical care. Oh and you also don't get holidays. "No work, you no money".
Anyway it's back on the bus tomorrow so an early night.
