24/1/10 - day 46.
as predicted i was woken up by rustling bags and loud whispering at 5ish and from then on slept on and off til about half 7 when i thought i might as well get up. i got breakfast at a cafe recommended to me by the others in the dorm - eggs, toast, melon, mango and free coffee refills. so, naturally, i had to have 3.
from there i walked to the copan ruins which date back to 500-900 AD. it was a hot walk, even though it was like half 9. for central america standards it was expensive to get into the site - 10 quid. maybe im getting old, geeky, or both but i actually thought they were quite impressive and took a ridiculous amount of photos.
after walking around every last bit of it (getting my money´s worth) and looking in the museum, i left about 1pm. by the time i got back to copan i was starving, found a small comedor, ordered standard plato tipico, and for a change it was not very nice. back to the hostel and plotted my final few days in honduras.
went out a bit later when it was cooler, and walked up a big hill to where i was informed there was a lookout. i couldnt find it but i did find a rather random musuem which showed an ancient mayan ball game they used to play among other things. had a bit of a stagger round the streets and looked at the tat people were selling at their stalls.
just i was returning to the hostel, 2 others were arriving. canadian heather and kevin from birmingham. cool people and it was a pleasure to have some people to eat dinner with as we did that evening. not having been able to stay in a dorm environment, you dont get the social aspect so chance meetings with other travellers are less common.
went to be around 10pm, having decided to ignore the larger than average ants crawling up the wall by my bed.
