We took the short, 4 hour, drive from La Paz to Copacobana and the beautiful Lake Titicaca. Our crew did not have much good to say about Copacobana so we were pleasantly suprised to find a very nice little town with freindly people. The food was excellent and cheap too as long as you like trout! you can have trout with whatever you want and most of the resteraunts have at least 20 different trout dishes (no trout in alomnds though Dad- a niche for you perhaps!) ...

We left Potosi for La Paz with hope of a nice hotel and freindlier welcome. It is fair to say that as a group we did not have the best feel for Potosi and many of the people there did not like us being in their town! After another gruelling day on the truck that involved several hours of car bingo, (yes we were bored) because it can take that long to see another vehicle... (we had to change it to anything that had an engine!) we arrived in Potosi at our hole of a hotel. The hotel we had been meant to stay in had rung up the crew the day before we arrived and cancelled our booking! Therefore this was the only one left in the whole town. Uyuni is pretty much a tourist town as the gateway to the 12,000 KM salt flats (salt desert). On our first morning we loaded into jeeps for our visit to the flats. This basically means that you drive for over an hour at 100km per hour into the flats until all you can see is white salt and a few mountains. We did not know how dangerous this is until we got back and our crew told us that the jeeps regualrly have blow outs on the salt and 6 weeks ago 4 people died! ...
