Whilst waiting for the bongo to get a new lease of life we decided to not waste any more time and head on up to Queenstown on the bus. After a 2 hour bus ride we arrived in Queenstown and checked into our hostel. After the usual flaffing that comes with arriving in a new place we headed to town to watch the first of what will turn out to be many All Black games. After watching the All Blacks beat the French we went in search of a local delicacy, which had been told to us by the family we stayed with in Te Anau. All they said was you have to have a Fergburger, it's the biggest and best burger you will ever have!!! So with that in mind off we trundled in search of this local gold. And yes if you are ever in Queenstown you have to search this place out. Although that isn't really that hard as there is always a massive queue outside of the place. Next morning we went to another town just down the road called Arrowtown, which is an old gold mining town now turned into an arts town. Arrowtown is nice and quaint, only problem being that where it sits in the valley it gets very little sun so never really warms up!!! Not a problem when the local pub has a log fire! A little r+r was in order for the next day. So we went to the cinema then meet up with a friend from Raglan who was in Queenstown too. The last morning in Queenstown before moving onto Wanaka we went up the gondola to see the views of the Remarkables and play on the luge!!!! Needless to say I won both races!!! So after our morning of high speed racing we where on another bus and moving on to Wanaka.
Arriving into Wanaka in the dark we loaded our packs on, and trundled off down the road to find a hostel called the Purple Cow. Unfortunately no purple cows were to be found on the premises after an extensive search. Very disappointing! After a casual stroll around town we decied that the next day we would do a local walk round the lake. This local walk round the lake turned out to be about 8 to 10 km much to Hayleys amusement (I think not). After spending the evening chatting to another English couple we were on a bus back to Te Anau to hopefully get our bongo back? And have another Fergburger (they are quite addictive!)
The following morning after Jacqui very kindly put us up for the night again we went, with our fingers crossed, down to the mechanics to find out our fate - or more to the point the fate of the bongo was it going to live again..............Yes was the answer but visa did very well out of it!!!!!
So with the van back in action we said our goodbyes and drove back to Queenstown this time getting further than 40k. Our night was spent watching the All Blacks beat France again! The following morning we stopped at Fergburger again........ did say they were addictive!!!! On the way into Wanaka is a theme park called Puzzling World. Which surprizingly enough is full of puzzles!! The best one being a giant maze, which took us about an 1.5 hours to do. Inside is an array of puzzles using mirrors, sloping floors and various other tricks. In the cafe is a collection of board, wood and metal puzzles just to frustrate you even more!!! Outside is a clock which started at midnight on millenium and goes backwards so you're actually going backwards in time, very confusing especially as the tower is only leaning on one corner!!!
Onto Wanaka...............
