Hawaii - Arrival Day 1
Honolulu, Hawaii
We left Detroit around 8 in the morning and arrived in O'ahu around 3 in the afternoon after a connecting flight in Colorado. This was my first time flying >4 hrs. I was worried I wouldn't be able to sit that long, but I was able to tolerate the 6 hr and 50 min flight from Colorado to O'ahu with little discomfort.
After grabbing our bags we headed to Alamo to pick-up our rental car. A small sedan ended up being a good choice for all the city driving we were about to do. The Outrigger Wakiki Beach Resort is located downtown Honolulu. Finding a sport to park to unload our luggage was a bit tricky at first. Vallet parking seemed to be the only option which costs about $30 a day. In the end it was worth it.
After unpacking a few things we decided to grab dinner at the Hula Grill which was located on the main level of our hotel. There were a lot of seafood dinner options (to be expected when in Hawaii). Rich eats very little seafood and I don't eat any. I opted for a salad and Rich a burger. We ordered our first tropical drinks. The food and drinks were average, but then again we don't eat seafood.
After dinner, Rich wanted to walk around downtown for a bit so to avoid going back to our hotel room to sleep. Hawaii is 6 hrs behind Michigan. I tried my best, but after walking 2 blocks I begged him to go back to our room. I was in bed by 6:30 PM and up by 4 AM. Whoops!
