Been a while since I last wrote butjust been super busy!Last time I wrote I was on my way to KL, which to be honest was just like any other city.Bus to KL was fine and our first experience of a local bus in Malaysia - it was much better than any National Express bus.First of all there are only 3 seats in each row - a single and then the normal double and so you end up with a massive seat, which reclines and has a little footstool and therefore really relaxing.
Once we arrived in KL we had a little walk to the central market for some lunch and then a few of us planned to go look at some sites but then we experienced our first monsoon shower and everything just flooded instantly! So ended up back at the hotel looking like I had just had a shower. In the evening it cleared up enough that I went up the KL Tower and then walked to the Petronas Towers( the one with the bridge in the film Entrapment). The views from the top were pretty good but other than that it was just another tower.Had food that night in China town and was so much better than Chinese you get at home - but no real surprise there really. The next day a few of us went to the Batu Caves. There is a Hindu temple based in the caves and lots of monkey surrounding it.We walked up the 272 step…yes 272 - good work out and spent about 20 min looking around. It was quite impressive to see from the bottom of the steps although once we got to the top there wasn't much to see and we spent quite a bit of time running away from the monkeys.
Spent the rest of the day walking around and visited Times Square shopping Centre, which has around 10 floors of shops including a theme park in the middle of it.Would probably need two days to look at all the shops. The next day we caught a 2 hour bus to Meleka and we only had an afternoon here before leaving the following morning to Singapore.I actually really liked Meleka as it was really nice to walk around and visit the different areas including another China Town.I think everyone was just too excited about getting to Singapore to really enjoy it though.
The next day was a bit of a mission bus journey to Singapore. It started with 4 hours to the border where I got asked the most random question ever by Immigration going into Singapore. First they asked me if I supported Cardiff City to which I replied that I was more ofrugby fan. Then they asked me had I voted in the last election and I said no as I had left the UK before and then he asked me who would I have voted for!!! I really wanted to say 'mind your own business' but decided that probably wouldn't help my case so I just muttered something about not really being sure.Other people got asked really random questions as well and you are never too sure if they are trick questions or just because they are bored!
Anyway Singapore was amazing - sad that I had to leave it.I walked around so much ( which is pretty stupid in that heat!) that I am sure I've shrunk.I went to the botanical Gardens, Little India, China Town, Setosa Island and Orchard Road amongst many other places. This city is amazing everything just works perfectly and also it so clean. Most of the China Towns and Little Indias in other places are really dirty and smelly but here it was super clean.I was staying in hostel in Little India called the Inn Crowd and it was pretty good.Really good location to everything.Singapore is reallya shopper's Paradise although you need money to shop here.Think I spent more money here in the 4 day that I did for the entire 3 weeks in Vietnam. Was worth it though - really great atmosphere and felt totally safe even on the underground.Would love to work there as there was a real buzz of young professional people.
Anyway the trip must go on so I am currently in Perth having flow in yesterday.Got to the airport at 6:30am yesterday only to find my flight had been cancelled!Luckily they transferred us to Singapore Airlines who were just fantastic service on the place. The air hostesses were just like little dolls with not a hair out of place dressed in what look like traditional Geisha like costumes. Not sure they were very appropriate for health and safety but everything was free.Treated myself to a glass of wine with lunch which was at like 11am and considering I have not had wine for months I felt really tipsy after ½ glass! Hehe.Must drink more to get my tolerance back up as they seem to drink a lot here and there are wine tasting tours advertised every where here. Staying at the Perth City YHA and it is amazing - has a gym ( which I have already used), a pool, 4 kitchens, tv lounge and the bathrooms and rooms are really good.I have had worse student accommodation than this.
Just realized today when I was explaining toJapanese lady where I was from how confusing the whole UK, Britain thing is.They just think its all England and she had never even heard about Wales. Most Australian have, simply because of rugby which is good.Although my name seems to be causing a few issues - its really not that hard is it?!Good thing my brother never named me as with his kids names- Oz people would never have a chance of pronouncing it!
Had a little walk around today to get my bearings and Perth really isn't that big.Having a very practical day tomorrow which getting a sim card, opening a bank account etc.I am in and around Perth now until the 27th May when I head north to Monkey Mia and then to Ningaloo Reef.It about mid 20s here at the moment and although I am walking around in shorts and short sleeved tops the local have gloves hat and scarves on!I am standing out like a bit of a tourist right now but it seriously isn't that cold!
Lots of Ozzy Love
