Day 11 ... highlights exploring Amsterdam and exploring Amsterdam
... truly an exploratory kind of day. Began the day without a map and attempting to navigate our way through Amsterdam ... I love this "wingin' it" / "fly by the seat of our pants" stuff. We eventually found our way to Central Station and from there were able to grab a map and cash in some of our tour vouchers.
The first tour today was a 3-hour bike tour [Yellow Bike Tours] through and around the city. Sabine did AWESOME - what a trooper - it was an amazingly busy ride from 13h30 to 16h30 - the streets were teeming with people. She was able to keep up really well including sharp turns, going up over steep bridges, navigating in and around bikes-people-cars, and a bike crash [... a kamikaze young fella came flying and weaving down a hill and plowed into Sabine's front tire (and right knee ) ... he felt really bad and luckily Beanie is a toughie!!!]. She shook it off with a few tears and a red nose while continuing to ride - see "trooper - exrtraordinaire"! We saw lots of great sights and feel like we have established our bearings of the area ... now know where ...
- I'm going to go for my Runtastic jogs ... Vondelpark
- the best grocery stores are ... picked up some granola
- shops are situated ... arts, antiques, clothing, etc.
The second tour was a canal tour which also pointed out the sights but from the vantage point of the canals ... another great way to see the city - the Captain didn't take our tickets so we're going on it again tomorrow ... haha!
Today's photo: I was going to choose a great photo of Sabine on the Yellow Bike Tour but chose instead a picture I took of a bike parking garage ... and the overflow ...
- Quick Fact: Amsterdam is very "bike friendly" with 800,000 people in the Amsterdam central area and approximately 880,000 bikes! In fact, Amsterdam is spending $$$ [$135 million] to improve biking infrastructure
Prost! - RGR
