"Taking the Indian home"
This is a true adventure that takes place in The United States of America and Canada beginning from my home base on the East Coast of Australia.
Lets explain the title. The Indian is my 2015 Indian Scout motorcycle purchased new from Indian Sydney immediately upon my return from my 2015 European trip aboard my well travelled Triumph Sprint ST 1050. That was a almost 20000km 30 country adventure, that stretched from the Altanic Ocean to The Black Sea. So why did I purchase the Indian, no adverse reflection on the Triumph it is still a worthy means of travel and indeed is already booked for a Grand European trip in the Summer of 2018.
The Indian Motorcyle Co is the oldest American Motorcycle company having being founded in 1901 so is a truely iconic brand. My connection with Indan motorcycles stretches back to around 1969 when I purchased a former NSW Police Indian Chief & sidecar from a fellow High School student as he was about to cut it up and make a chopper. Incidently I still own it to this day but sadly sofar it hasn't been restored to a rideable condition.
Some of you will be familiar with the 1980's movie Easy Rider, where middle aged men skip the normal lifestyles and "hit the road"on Harley chopers. No that's not me as I have already travelled the United States & Canada extensively since 1984. This has included the Greyhound buses, hire cars, my own car, commercial aircraft,Tourist coaches and a great family trip in a Recreational Vehicle (RV), so a motorcycle trip across the countries is a new adventurerous method of connecting with mainstream people to experience more of the sounds, sights, foods, smells, scenery and politics of these two vast countries. Yes no doubt some will say why politics? Well our three countries are linked by a common democratic system, with differences but steming from The Westminister system and despite in the US a civil war the roots still remain.
So having acquired the Indian preparations have continued, including scouting trips in the past three years to the US & Canada, a major operation to replace my left hand knee which despite the surgery saying politely "please don't ride your bike to the review" went so well that 2 weeks after the operation I rode the Indian Scout to my Motorcycle Clubs usual Tuesday morning tea and progress meant I have never looked back and this expected 12000-16000 trip is likely to pose no problems to the knee. Incidently my initial consultation with the orthopedic surgeon had the question posed "Do you have any goals after the operation?"My reply was yes 5 months later to begin a motorcycle trip across the US & Canada" "Good said the Surgeon. Then shortly thereafter a phone call "Sir do you know how far that is and have you done anything like that before?"Yes Sir mostly every two years and around 16000kms maximum"
So 5 months later this trip begins in California USA at Los Angeles International Airport as the Indian was rewarded with a air ticket on United Airlines UA 840 Sydney to Los Angeles a departure from my normal shipping by sea.
This trip is also different from the other epic motorcycle trips in that it is a loner trip my usual world travellers Greg & Kerrie Lane have done this trip by motorcycle before and as I was unable to join them then this is another reason for doing the trip.
The United States & Canada both have new leaders so yet another reason to come and ask the people about the new leaders our Australian press is so bias towards the looney left that only snipets of believeable news such as Merinda Devine in The Daily Telegraph give any real indication of what is actually happening. Mind you I did the same when Obama became the first Black US President, visiting the deep South with travels in Alabama, Mississippi& Florida.
Riding a motorcycle especially alone usually leads to close interaction with residents unlike bus and organised tourist trips so I hope you enjoy this adventure and appreciate the comments are mine they may not be main stream politics certainly not politically correct but are a true representation of those I meet, the sights I see and the resulting outcomes.
So please sit back, relax read and comment after all we are individuals with diversity the culture we share.
