So the next part of our long journey to Peru began. We had booked tickets the day before from the Cruz del Sur website for $100 dollars.
We had paid $15 dollars more for V.I.P seats and Ohhh my were they worth it.
Large leather seats with personal televisions, foot rests and reclining backs meant that the 28hour journey was as bearable as probably possible. We boarded at 2pm and reached the border 4 hours later. We unfortunately arrived straight after another bus full of people which meant this border crossing seemed to be extremely slow and tedious. Although an hour or so later we were back in our seats and on the road again.
We were served dinner about 9pm that night. An aeroplane style meal of beef with rice, and a rice pudding-esque dessert that I am still not entirely sure of. They also served us with breakfast and lunch the following day.
Overall the food was pretty good to be served on a bus and definitely helped avoid the consistent biscuit snacking that has filled the majority of my travels so far.
We arrived the following day at around 6 o'clock in to Lima. We were dropped at a busy bus terminal full of taxi drivers which meant the rest of journey was relatively easy. We grabbed a taxi for 15soles to our next hostel.
We had booked 1900 backpackers for the night. We were greeted by large doors that led upstairs to a large open old fashioned building. We had booked a basic private room for around $26 dollars.
The hostel also had a bar inside which created quite a nice and friendly atmosphere. Unfortunately after two drinks we were both exhausted which meant our night in Lima was very short lived. We called it an early night before we began our travel to Cusco the following day.
