It's been a whole month since I wrote last so this updating is going to be a task... firstly, the most important thing - SPIDERMAN 3 IS OUT!!!! I'm so excited but I'm saving myself for when I get to Sydney (in 5 days or so) cos me and Keeran (my bro) are meeting Maya there and we can all see it together. So, after cairns, I went to a small rainforest village called Kuranda - yes it is actually in the rainforest amongst all sorts of wild things - mostly beautiful butterflies, exotic birds. This town is like a small toy town village (small, cute and remids me of Centreparks for some reason), with the 'Kuranda Scenic Railway' making it's way past waterfalls and things and the Skyrail cable ride which allows you to fly above the rainforest for an hour or so whilst stopping at various waterfalls and rainforest sights (I loved this experience - it got a bit misty on the way back to Kuranda but that just added to the atmosphere). I stayed here for 5 days cos I was waiting for Keeran to meet me in Australia and I just couldn't bring myself to leave. The backpackers I was staying at wass very friendly and full of blokes which was a bit of a change from being in an all girls hostel but they were great and the manager looks like Clive Owen!!. I got on really well with the receptionist and she took me to the Barron Falls nearby where I did this seriously high jump from a cliff into the waterpool below.... twice and really hurt my bum the first time and the second time I sprained my neck too but all in all, it was a great experience and I still can't believe I did it cos when I looked at the falls from a distance, I realised that the water flowing from this small waterhole was coming down a huge drop that crashed way down at the base of the falls - my mum will kill me when she sees the photos! It was so high and scary that even the receptionist didn't want to jump in even though she was the one raving about it. Afterwards we lazed in the nearby dam which only after I'd been swimming in was I informed has crocodiles in it - Thanks for telling me. So the night after watching two Clive Owen films as a tribute to the manager, I carried on back to Cairns and caught a flight at some ridiculous hour to Brisbane to meet my bro.
Brisbane bores me a bit but we did see one hilarious theatre 'The Complete Works of William Shakespeare 'Abridged', in which these 3 guys play out all of Shakespeare's plays in only 97 mins! We did a 3 day trip to Fraser Island (A huge island which holds more sand than the Sahara Desert!). This trip was terrific, cos it was self drive - meaning that you and 10 other travellers share a jeep, food and camp together on this sand island with no tour guide... Getting stuck in the sand was luckily not part of our trip. Ellie Creek was one of the first stops - a crystal clear creek which tastes purer than mineral water and is just beautiful - you wade through it. Unfortunately, losing my bikini bottoms before I got there meant that I had to use blue nickers which when wet are see-through so I stayed as low as possible while wading through! The next day we saw Lake Wabby which was just so surreal - imagine a forest turning into hundreds of metres of rolling sand dunes (which we rolled down!), turning into a large beautiful deep emerald coloured lake. I mean the sand dunes actually went down into this lake and boy were we glad to see it after the 1.8 km walk in boiling sun over mostly dessert. We also saw the beautiful Champagne pools that day - billabongs of water filled up by sea water at high tide which you can safely swim in (there are sharks in these parts of the sea). The next day we saw the famous Lake Mckenzie - huge and clear and tasteless. It's like a tropical beach at the main end because of the shallow lagoony turqoise colour but it does go very deep. I did drive a bit on the last day cos everyone insisted and that was cool. The people we were with were all of mixed nationalities - Irish, German, Swiss, Italian (we would always make fun of this guy cos he'd always be the last one in the truck due to his flirting with various blonde's along the way) and an English girl - Emma. Our camping nights were hilarious with camping games- one of these 'My little Koala' meant you'd go round in a circle and liss the little Koala keyring somewhere e.g on the hand but the next person couldn't kiss the Koala in the same place. Afterwards, everyone finds out that u have to kiss the person next to you in the same place - very amusing. When we ran out of games we ended up playing stupid games like 'Wink Murder' which is hilarious in the dark. Of course the darkness also meant amazing stargazing - the milkyway was so clear and we saw a few shooting stars. This is definately one of the best trips I've ever done
After Fraser Island, we picked up a small car to start our 2 week journey south to Sydney, but that's another story and I shall tell it soon once you've all absorbed this!!!... Rish xxx
