Ren and M's Excellent Adventure
We have just come out of the Amazon rain forest and will never be able to explain what a complete adventure that was, how happy I am it is over but with the knowledge in 3 weeks I will look back with all the romanticism possible and want to do it all again!
We arrived and were escorted to a waiting boat, I looked up and saw something out of an old move one of those big boats with a wheel that rotates in the water and thought "how wonderful", I then saw the clapped out boat with a motor on the end and know that was ours!
We powered along the Amazon through the jungle for 2 1/2 hours until we were completely remote and a lodge appeared in the distance.
We got off the boat and explored our new home, lots of pets, most of which bit! But a great environment. No electricity (where will I plug in my hairdryer...only joking!) no sounds, only that of the rainforest.
The first night we went hunting for Caiman aligators in a boat which was a tree trunk, a dug out canoe, which may I say we had to get into in the pitch black from the faster boat (a larger dug out canoe) in the middle of the river (not forgetting we are looking for aligators!)
We did a trek in the Rai forest, totally remote, unchartered territory, but the insects were unbearable, the rest was great!
The rainforest is amazingly noisy at night but so relaxing. During our time there we trekked in the Amazon, hunteed Aligators, fished for Pirhana, hunted the most elusive pink dolphins, swam in teh porhana infested lakes, visited local tribes, was blessed by a Shaman (I still think she was smoking a joint!) and met with a medicine man to discuss herbal remedies......I now know how to kill someone off with diarrhea! Renato also climbed up to the zip lines and sped over the top of the forest!
We managed to escape eventually, ready for a relaly good wash to remove that deet and remove clothers we had been wearing for nearly a week, as the photos suggest...minging!
Renato is the new Indianna Jones!
