Ren and M's Excellent Adventure
Arequipa is one of the prettiest towns we haved visited in Peru so far. Narrow streets, colonial architecture and hidden treasures around every corner.
We visited the Santa Catalina monastery which was very beautiful and kept really well. (we may have 1 or 2 pictures too many!)
We also managed a trip to the Colca Canyon also known as the Valley of the Condors, South American Condors are the largest in the world and have a wing span of up to 2 mtrs. After a very long journey there (with views of Alpacas, Vucunus, Llamas and one tame hawk!) we arrived at the village of Chivay. We had been told we would be rewarded with a visit to the hot springs however Renato and I were not holding out much hope as we had visited a similar place in Aguas Calientes (direct translation - water hot!) Which hadn't been very good, in fact slightly scuzzy! However we were in for a treat and a half and the hot spings were like a VERY big swimming pool full of hot water! For someone who hasn't seen a bath in weeks it was BLISS (don't worry I have showered!)
The next day we headed to the Condors and one at least did not dissappoint and Renato took some stunning pictures.
The scenery on the way back was amazing and the pictures will prove what a diverse environment Peru has. In one day I got a tan, watched sleet and snow, and saw amazing lightening in the mountains.
Defining moment 2.....listening to David Bowie, Ground control to Major Tom, whilst looking at the most moonlike scenery I have seen in real life.
PS..Defining moment 1......Listening to Coldplays Fix You whilst watching the sunset, sitting on deck of the Floreana boat sailing around the Galapagos islands after a wonderful day of snorkelling and walking (just after a hot shower!)
