Ren and M's Excellent Adventure
Well the long journey began from London Heathrow at the ungodly hour of 5.30am, with Ren's BA executive card we managed to scrounge a place in the executive lounge of Iberian airlines, a joy I am sure you would agree!
After two excrutiating hours in cattle class on the 1st leg to Madrid we had not dared to mention the 11 hour ordeal (exciting adventure!) yet to be faced from Madrid to Quito.
At the third and final call we arrived at the gate (with heads held low) the happy! trolley dolley advised us in his most unhappy voice that we had been upgraded to Business plus - we looked at each other and tried sooo hard not to smirk and look pleased as we skipped off down the tunnel to enter the plane......well we couldn't have imagined ANYTHING better in our wildest dreams....champagne as we waited to leave, FULLY reclining seats, a video, games consol, 3 course menu and a selection of 12 movies....I didn't want to get off due to being concerned of what would greet us on the ...other side.
We disembarked...reluctantly....and headed through passporst control to be met by a thousand smiling faces leaning towards us....OMG I thought, is this how they greet gringos? No they were there to welcome the national football team who had somehow also been upgraded to Business plus....(or was that us).
First night was spen in an interesting, if rather limited, hostal! The next day we moved to another, $2 dollars more expensive, with Ren feeling most aggreived about the first!
NYE was a mixture of fireworks, burning effegies, drinkings with the locals, eating street food and b****ing about Americans. (Sorry VB - it seems to be a national pastime) But a great way to see in 2006! Happy NY to you all.
We are now about to head off to the Galapagos Isalnds and will be incommunicado until further notice.....our mobile doesn't work at the mo....they haven't even heard of Vodafone!
We will keep you posted!
